I'm pretty sure they do.
I always get the best service here along with great food.#sushi #miso
Good ambiance, servers are very attentive and the alley feeling to it is nice. Their tempura is good, crispy yet fluffy and delicious. Their nabe yaki however.... the broth had a weird metal-like aftertaste to it and just didn't taste to the price-point this place is set to. Might come back for sake only but definitely not for food.
Crazy roll was fantastic. The brussel sprouts were a lot more lemony this time, which was a little disappointing because this is the absolutely BEST place for brussel sprouts. This restaurant changed how I cook brussel sprouts at home. Their dish has a unique crispiness to their brussel sprouts which I love. Overall a very pleasant low-lit restaurant tucked away in Alley A.
Great food good service
Great food, good service. Low key.
Excellent tasting and well prepared sushi, nice selection of assorted rolls and beverages. Friendly and helpful servers. We have tried several different sushi restaurants in Columbia, this is the one that we would recommend above all others for anyone wanting the absolute best in this City.
We went there as the first dining place to try in Columbia and we fell in love with the atmosphere and the food (we ordered Ramen) was so good that we went back again for a second time that weekend! Nice waitress, Mallory, (I don’t remember the name of the first day waitress) and again delicious food (yaki soba and pad thai)! DON’T forget to try their geisha martini!
Excellent sushi, Kampai roll was a big favorite! Service was fast and pleasant!
This restaurant has absolutely delicious food. I personally have really enjoyed being able to sear my own scallops at the table. That was a new experience for me and they tasted amazing. I would highly recommend ordering that.
Really good sushi. I would say a little bit overpriced but it's hard to judge sushi prices sometimes. Cool little upstairs area to eat, too.
Excellent sushi! Great service and atmosphere too! Try the Cuckoo's Nest roll.
The service, setting and presentation are all great. Quality of the sushi i would say is average.
Great service. Delicious food. We can eat inside the restaurant or outdoors.
Love the food and the service!
The Ramen, Yellowtail Roll, and Scallop appetizer were top notch. Also very cool indoor and outdoor dining environments.
Best sushi in Columbia. Gorgeous interior, comfortable dining spaces- fantastic for dates. Service has always been absolutely spot on. The coo coo nest is the most delicious sushi roll I've ever had, anywhere. The sashimi is prepared expertly and reliably fresh and perfect. Haven't had a bad thing or even a meh thing. Super recommended.
Upscaled Japanese sushi bar and restaurant. The food taste worth it. Though its expensive but the menu is good, the staff is friendly, feel free to ask them details from the menu and ask for recommendations based on your taste levels. They serve complimentary soup with tofu.. the soup taste wonderful, so as the ramen which was legendary... i am a biggest fan of Japanese ramen and they served the one was hit!!
Atmosphere is quiet. It's a great place to go for good food and a nice conversation with your friends.
Always a pleasant experience dining at Kampai. The food is delicious, and the owner truly cares about his product.
Ordered California roll and ala carte octopus, the ambiance was perfect. Attention to detail was taken here. It wasn't terribly busy here and the service was excellent. I will be returning here often this summer!
Ahem. Well for starters, i called for a curve side pick up and they hung up on me after i made my order. By the time i was able to pick it up, they were very off on service. And to top it off, the food was too tough and semi loose. But the best at this moment. If you go here, thats on you. Im good.
Quite good Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price. Cozy atmosphere. Much cheaper than a trip to Japan.
fresh fish. they have the good stuff. Uni. Toro. Blue fin tuna. Baby yellow tail. Salmon belly. Tuna tartare. Live scallop. Before I wandered these roads merely to persist. Having been to this sushi bar, I now have reason to exist.
Delicious sushi and miso soup. Slightly smaller portions than some other sushi restaurants in town. Tempura wasn't quite as crisp as it should be.
Great sushi for mid-MO & a well-stocked bar. Their sushi lunch combo is a good value.
DO NOT GO HERE. Rip off/rude staff. The good reviews that are on here a people that don’t know real sushi. Mid Missouri-wanna be authentic sushi restaurant. I paid $20 for 2 shrimp tempura roles. All I got on my plate was rolled up rice...barely a spect of shrimp. When I told the waitress that I wasn’t happy with the lack of protein in my sushi, she rudely responded with “well I saw the chef make it and he definitely put shrimp in there” and walked away. I asked to talk to the manager, and they weren’t there. I didn’t bother arguing about paying because I just wanted to get our if there! Go to Kampai if you want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on white rice and leave still feeling hungry.
Above average slow in every process. Good restaurant, good service attitude, good environment.... It's just I spent almost two hours for a lunch (just noodle stuff)......and the food was unfortunately salty.
Love going there! Visits this place either for lunch or dinner almost everyday. The owners and employees are very friendly. Best sushi place in Columbia, MO!! They served rare sushi and Japanese liquor that only very good restaurant have them. Best deal is lunch combo comes with a roll, 3 sushi, miso soup, and salad for like $10
Our whole family loves Kampai. The food is stellar, the setting is sleek but welcoming, and service is top-notch. Favorite dishes of mine include the octopus salad and the brussel sprouts with chili oil. They feature a ridiculous number of rolls for sushi & sashimi lovers. There are a few beef, chicken and pork dishes for those who don't care for fish, as well as vegetarian options. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and I believe the restaurant is mostly ADA compliant (although I don't know how someone with a wheelchair would get upstairs). It's family friendly, but also has a bar available. Pic includes DIY Scallops (you sear it yourself on a hot rock), edamame, and a Kampai salad (greens with a ginger dressing). I mangled the scallops in these pictures; the original presentation was gorgeous.
One of the best sushi places in town.
By far my most favorite place in town to go for sushi, or a nice dinner with my girlfriend. Fast, friendly and attentive. I have even been here alone for lunch bento and it was amazing. Always fresh.
Great food and service!
Good specialty rolls (can't speak to any other categories), good service, cool location, slightly underwhelming miso soup, my dining partner had no tofu cubes in theirs.
Some of the best sushi I have had in a long time, and quickly became one of my favorite restaurants in Columbia! Very friendly and attentive staff, in a comfortable, ambiant, and unique setting, with both modern and traditional Japanese features. I highly recommend the Sunset Roll.
One of my favorite places in Columbia. Great place when you're in the mood foe sushi. The Brussels sprouts and octopus salad are also delicious.
This place is great and the owner is so nice.
Quiet with a lovely ambiance. The waitress was very helpful (I'm gluten free)and the food was VERY delicious! I loved the way it was decorated too, especially the bathroom!
Kampai is comparable to the best Japanese restaurants in STL or KC. It offers a full Japanese menu, but specializes in sushi. Sushi ranges from traditional California roll to creative rolls, or if the chefs have time, they will try to accommodate special requests. The sushi is carefully and artistically prepared. There are no lop-sided rolls or scrambled nigiri here. Everything is nicely presented. The ingredients are fresh. The chefs are careful and professional. Service is excellent. The restaurant is small and moderately quiet. The only downside is the location in an alley in the busiest part of downtown.
I have dined here a few times. Everything dish I’ve tried is great. Noodles is flavorful. Their cocktail is bomb. Staff is friendly. Some of the upstair seating is not comfortable because of the height of table/chairs. But overall I definitely come back.
Sushi "in the alley" is our go to for sushi in Columbia. It's also our go to for date night because the setting is nice, always good service too. Very clean, clean bathrooms, indoor and outdoor seating. They have more than just sushi too.
Good service and sushi. Highly recommend the brussle sprouts to start!
Great food and service, well kept facility.
Kampai does not follow the hours they say they are open, I call and call but all you get is a voicemail saying the hours they are supposed to be open but all you get are crickets. Great food but horrible at being consistent in service. Very disappointed.
A little pricy but it's the best sushi I've had in town. Every bite is so smooth.
Freshest Sushi grade fish in Columbia!
Excellent sushi (for mid-Missouri). I had the catarpillar sushi, which was cool looking and very tasty. Very good tempura as well. My vegan daughter had plenty to choose from. Great atmosphere. Good service.
Best sushi in town! Very friendly staff, and I'm very happy with how they've managed the brave new covid world. All staff wear masks, customers are distanced, and sanitizer ready and waiting for you!
Best sushi in town!
Nice calm atmosphere and great sushi! Not a bad bar either.
First off Delicious high quality sushi. Very chill vibes in the place, high scale lounge feel. It's also tucked away in Alley A which has got a couple other places worth checking out.
